seek to reverse high school dropout rate and counter negative entertainment images!

The Village Report.Net and Millennium Men of Color (501-3c) have joined forces to present the Rising to Excellence African American Youth Mentoring Conference. The conference is scheduled for:

February 20, 2010 from 10am to 2pm at the

East Regional Library

6813 Bridge Street, Fort Worth , Texas 76112

We are requesting community groups, churches and faith-based organizations to enroll youth in this conference. The targeted age group is 10 to 18 years of age.

Breakout sessions:

Life after Dropping out of High School

is designed to paint the grim reality of a life in crime, unemployment and being locked out of the mainstream of American society without the barest of educational essentials. College and trade-school representatives will be available to speak with high-school age participants.

Countering Negative Entertainment Images

is designed to heighten the self-esteem of our youth and urge them to a higher understanding of responsibility and self-actualization.

General session:

Q&A with Black Professional Men and Women

In addition we are seeking professional black men and women to be present for a group interaction and question and answer period with our participants.

MB2B To Participate With This Community Event

Join MB2B this Saturday, June 27, 2009 as we join with the Concord Baptist Church for their Make A Difference Day. If you wish to participate with MB2B with their specific project for this effort, please contact Mr. Chase at chase@MB2B.org or visit the Concord Church website for more information.

Also join us later that evening for Gospel Under The Stars outdoor concert starting at 5:00pm on the Concord Church Parking Lot. MB2B will be selling candy and bottled water as a fund-raising effort for our annual team-building trip in August during this event.

President Obama Signs National Mentoring Month 2010 Proclamation Federal support for mentoring as a tool to increase young people’s prospects for leading a healthy and productive life has increased over the years, and taken center stage under the Obama administration.

The Proclamation that President Obama signed on January 4, 2010 states in part:

Many of us are fortunate to recall a role model from our own adolescent years who pushed us to succeed or pulled us back from making a poor decision. We carry their wisdom with us throughout our lives, knowing the unique and timeless gift of mentorship. During this month, I encourage Americans to give back by mentoring young people in their communities who may lack role models, and pass that precious gift on to the next generation. NOW,

THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim January 2010 as National Mentoring Month. I call upon public officials, business and community leaders, educators, and Americans across the country to observe this month with appropriate ceremonies, activities, and programs.

Created by the Harvard School of Public Health and MENTOR, National Mentoring Month (NMM) is marking its ninth year in 2010. By focusing national attention on the need for mentors, as well as how each of us—individuals, businesses, government agencies, schools, faith communities and nonprofits—can work together to increase the number of mentors, we assure brighter futures for our young people.

As in years past, the Harvard School of Public Health is working with the national media to heighten awareness of mentoring and prompt individuals to volunteer to mentor. At the same time, MENTOR is working with the NMM campaign’s local partners who are organizing special NMM events in their communities with their local media. These events help interested adults learn how to turn their concern for young people into direct action by becoming mentors. The Corporation for National and Community Service, a NMM partner since 2006, promotes the month to its vast network of Senior Corps, AmeriCorps and Learn and Serve America grantees and highlights mentoring during its annual Martin Luther King Day of Service event.

NMM celebrates mentoring and the positive effect it can have on young lives. Its goals are to: Raise awareness of mentoring in its various forms. Recruit individuals to mentor, especially in programs that have waiting lists of young people. Promote the rapid growth of mentoring by recruiting organizations to engage their constituents in mentoring. Each year since its launch in 2002, NMM has enjoyed the strong support of the U.S. President and Congress. Additional prominent individuals who have participated in the campaign include: Maya Angelou, former President Bill Clinton, Clint Eastwood, Senator John McCain, Quincy Jones, General Colin L. Powell, Cal Ripken, Jr., Bill Russell and Usher.
