MB2B ALPHA MOTO Technology Workshop

Mentoring Brother 2 Brother has partnered with Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc, Xi Tau Lambda North Dallas Chapter for a Science, Math, Engineering and Technology (STEM) workshop that was held on June 28, 2008 at the University of Texas at Dallas. And special thanks, to our gracious UTD host, Mr. Arthur Gregg, Assistant VP of Multicultural Affairs and Director, Multicultural Center.

We would also like to acknowledge our core partner organization LAW Mentoring who also joined us at this event.  Grant funding for this workshop is supported by the Motorola Foundation.

As collectively communicated by each workshop presenter, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) is the language we communicate in our daily world and its important that each young person understands how STEM areas impact our lives--academically, professionally and inter-personally.

MB2B would like to again thank the outstanding STEM professionals who were able to provide mini-workshops within their areas of expertise for workshop participants-

Celebrating Rising Stars Awards Banquet

The Mentoring Brother 2 Brother organization is pleased to announce our primary fundraising event, Celebrating Rising Stars.  This is our third Celebrating Rising Stars Banquet, which is a fundraiser designed to celebrate the accomplishments of the Mentee's in the Mentoring Brother 2 Brother program in addition to honoring a local community leader whose vision, leadership and community service is exceptional by any measure.

Our feature honoree for our 2008 event will be Dr. Sheila M. Bailey, president of E.K. Bailey Ministries. Our previous honorees have included Dr. Wright Lassiter, Jr. Chancellor, Dallas County Community College District,   and Mr. Jesse Armstead, NFL professional football player.

As we celebrate our tenth anniversary in empowering African American young men in the Dallas/Fort Worth community, our 2008 CRS fundraising targets are focused toward increasing the capacity in the areas of fund development, logistics and administration of the organization and its programs.  With 30 young men in our current fiscal year program, we continue to have challenges with transportation for our organization for program administration and activities and seek to purchase a van to lessen the stress in our operational logistics.

We are also seeking to increase our marketing and public relations efforts to recruit, train and retain new Mentors for our constantly increasing program enrollments; and third, we wish to increase our capacity-building efforts with our fund development efforts specifically for our Project 1000.  Project 1000 is an on-going fundraising program where we are seeking 1000 monthly donors to assist us in off-setting the increasing administrative and operational costs of our organization.  Currently, the annual cost per Mentee in our program is $445.00, in which 98% of this cost is absorbed by the organization so that our program enrollment costs remain free to the single-parents our program supports.

About Our 2008 Honoree – Dr. Shelia M. Bailey
Sheila M. Bailey, Hum.D. currently is the President of E. K. Bailey Ministries, Inc., in Dallas, Texas.  As an inspirational speaker on issues that focus on women and the family, Sheila Bailey’s poignant style will hold the attention and respect of any audience. Sheila’s faith has been tested and tried throughout her life, most recently at the October 2003 death of her husband of 34 years, the late Dr. E.K. Bailey, founding pastor of Concord Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas.

Throughout her life as a pastor’s wife, Dr. Bailey honed her teaching skills, allowing the Lord to use her in many different venues, including Anne Graham Lotz’s Just Give Me Jesus ministries.

Dr. Bailey and the late Dr. E.K. Bailey are the parents of two beautiful daughters, Cokiesha (Rev. Timothy Robinson) and Shenikwa (Stephen Cager), son, Emon and the proud grandmother of Bailey Shanice Cager. Dr. Bailey is co-author with her late husband and daughter Cokiesha Bailey Robinson of Farther In and Deeper Down a powerful story that highlights the journey of one of America’s leading pastors as he courageously battles cancer three times. Dr. Shelia Bailey is indeed a living example of the Proverbs 31 Woman.
