Mentoring Brother 2 Brother and Motorola Inspire Tomorrow's Math and Science Leaders Today Through Innovation Generation Grant

Through the Mentoring Brother 2 Brother organization, we are building tomorrow’s leaders today through innovative programs and community commitment. With the $5,000 grant support of a recent Innovation Generation Grant from the Motorola Foundation, we’ve joined a global network of advocates for science, technology, engineering and math education. Motorola Foundation’s innovative approach to connecting communities across the globe is helping our mentees discover science and technology through our MB2B MotoInnovation grant. Funding through this grant will allow MB2B to enhance organizational programs and activities related to Math, Science and Technology. By providing program participants hands-on study and experimental learning applications though field trips, targeted science, math or technology activities and by the utilization of guest speakers who have expertise in the areas of engineering, science, math and technology. Also, specifically programs and activities that will demonstrate how math and science will prepare students for the future in life--for college and/or career pursuits.

The MotoInnovation grant will fund the following field trips or activities that will be targeted for our organization and in some instances in partnerships with other programs based in the Dallas/Fort Worth, TX area that offer similar mentoring and tutoring programs for youth aged 6-18.

Police Crime Lab – Program participates will see how real detectives solve crime scene investigations. They will learn about the scientific method of solving crimes and how modern lab technology is used in investigating crimes.

Design A Robot – Partner with Motorola and/or other Dallas/Fort Worth engineering professionals for youth to design and program a robot.

Texas Discovery Gardens - Hands-on environmental education programs, that will include outdoor learning and service project opportunities for youth.

Dallas Museum of Natural History (Museum of Nature & Science) – Participation with on and off-site camps, exhibits and collections.

Scientist: Solve A Mystery – Learn about scientific research while solving archeological, environmental or wildlife mystery.

This is a partnership that’s making science fun and turning rocket scientists into tomorrow’s rock starts.

For more information about Motorola Foundation’s Innovation Generation Grant program and to join the network, visit www.motorola.com/motorolafoundation.

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month
. Call your American Cancer Society anytime, day or night at 1-800-ACS-2345 for more information about breast cancer and to find out how you can join the fight against this disease.

Help Raise Awareness About Breast Cancer
The pink ribbon lapel pin has become a powerful symbol to increase awareness about breast cancer, and it's easy to make for yourself and your friends.

During Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October and throughout the year—people wear pink ribbons to honor survivors, remember those lost to the disease, and to support the progress we are making together to defeat breast cancer.  Click on pink ribbon to go to the American Cancer Society website.

In 2007, more than 178,000 women will learn they have breast cancer, and more than 40,000 will die from the disease.  We want to encourage you to wear a pink ribbon throughout the month of October.

MB2B also wishes to honor and celebrate the legacy of Joyce Spencer mother of MB2B co-founder Ray Schufford who succumbed to breast cancer.
